From Flag Football To The NFL !?!?

Macho Harris: From flag football back to the NFL

"Those who are most unhappy with the NFL's new and more stringent contact policies say that Roger Goodell is turning the NFL into a flag football league. If you want to get the real read on that, you may want to ask defensive back Victor "Macho" Harris, who has seen time in each league. Selected by the Philadelphia Eagles in the fifth round of the 2009 draft out of Virginia Tech, Harris played in 15 games in his rookie season and was cut by the team on Sept. 4 of this year. Between then and his recent signing with the Washington Redskins, Harris played in the Fairfax County Flag Football League, near his hometown of Highland Springs, Virginia.
And according to Dan Steinberg of the Washington Post's must-read D.C. Sports Bog, Harris wasn't going up against a bunch of weekend warriors with beer guts in this league -- the Fairfax League has four divisions, plays 8-on-8 on a regulation field, and has featured contributions from many Division I football players. Harris had many high school friends in the league, and being a bit at odds after his release, turned observation into participation in a hurry. Contact is allowed at the line of scrimmage, which separates it from some other types of flag football, and Harris was able to star on both sides of the line with a game-winning touchdown catch for his team, the Novocaine"

After Terrelle Pryor's outstanding performance in Ohio State's first game against Marshall, in which he passed for 247 yards and three touchdowns, he continued his road to the Heisman against the Hurricanes.
Against the Canes, Pryor played extremely well, displaying pristine pocket presence and making plays. The 6'6" junior passed for 233 yards and a touchdown, while rushing 20 times for 113 yards and a touchdown.
In the past four weeks, Ohio State faced in-state rival Ohio, Eastern Michigan, Illinois and Indiana, and again, Pryor continued to shine. On the season, Pryor has thrown for 1,349 yards, 15 touchdowns and has thrown just three interceptions. Furthermore, he has rushed 57 times for 354 yards, scoring another three touchdowns. Pryor will be put to the test this weekend against No. 20-ranked Wisconsin this weekend as he hopes to continue his 2010 success.

After Alabama's Mark Ingram missed the first two games of the season due to a knee surgery, and now splitting carries with Trent Richardson, another outstanding running back, many believed that Ingram wouldn't be in this year's Heisman contention.
But since he returned against Duke, Ingram has scored twice in each of the three games he appeared in. He has rushed for 355 yards on 45 attempts, scoring six touchdowns.
However, Alabama was shockingly upset by South Carolina, who held Ingram to 41 yards on 11 carries.
Ingram hopes to bounce back this week against Ole Miss, at home.

Heisman Trophy Watch

 File:Cappelletti Heisman Trophy.JPG

The Heisman Trophy has been under scrutiny in recent weeks, with the climax occurring a couple weeks ago when the 2005 recipient, Reggie Bush, We are very appreciative of the respect Reggie Bush demonstrated for the Heisman Trust, the whole Heisman fraternity, and the continuing legacy of the Trophy in his public statement issued September 14, 2010. It was a difficult decision to return the Heisman Trophy and he exhibited great character in acknowledging his mistakes and accepting the consequences. We intend to explore further his offer to support jointly "an educational program which will assist student athletes and their families" to avoid the pitfalls that plagued him during his college years as this is a part of our charitable mission as well.

As a result of Reggie Bush's decision to forfeit his title as Heisman winner of 2005, the Trustees have determined that there will be no Heisman Trophy winner for the year 2005.
