Bank Robbers Throw Cash Out Window During Police Chase

A wild, high-speed pursuit of bank robbers across Southern California has come to an end with the capture of two men, who had hurled cash out the window of their vehicle during the pursuit.
Police began chasing a black Volvo SUV carrying four suspects, believed to have carried out an armed robbery at a Bank of America in Santa Clarita around 10 a.m. on Wednesday.
In fast pursuit of the alleged robbers, police followed the car along freeways towards downtown Los Angeles but when the suspects exited the freeway, their vehicle became blocked by standstill traffic in south Los Angeles and attracted a massive crowd of hundreds of bystanders.
Neighbors came out of the woodwork to surround the getaway car when rumors swirled that the suspects were throwing their loot out the window.
'I'm just so glad this person came to throw this money in the hood... It's more like all of us are supporting the robbers and the cops,' a 23-year-old neighbor told KNSD-TV.
Earlier in the chase, two suspects had managed to jump out of the car - leaving only two accomplices.
When traffic brought the car to a halt, officers surrounded the Volvo and the sea of onlookers waved to the suspects to throw more money out the window.
Ultimately, police pulled the two suspects from the car.
Police are still searching from the alleged robbers who had jumped from the vehicle, earlier in the chase, Capt. Mike Parker said.
No injuries were reported at the robbery.

It's nearly a daily occurrence in Los Angeles: A high-speed police chase broadcast live on television from local news helicopters hovering high above.
But Wednesday's harrowing pursuit was unusual even for Hollywood. At least a dozen times during the 80-minute chase, the suspects in an alleged armed robbery of a Bank of America hurled handfuls of cash out the windows of their SUV, with onlookers scrambling to scoop up the stolen money.
"This [chase] isn't something we see every day," said Mike Parker, spokesman for the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. "This definitely had some unique aspects to it."
Aerial video showed residents waving to the suspects during the chase and running into the street—some even in front of the police vehicles in pursuit.
"Onlookers were waving to the suspected bank robbers, apparently signaling for them to throw more money," reported NBCLA.com. "At times, the vehicle had to navigate through a mob of people waving at the car."
The pursuit began around 10 a.m. after the alleged armed robbery in the Santa Clarita Valley in northern Los Angeles County, zipping along freeways into downtown Los Angeles.
Four men were involved in the robbery, Parker told KCAL-TV, and no injuries were reported.
Two of the men jumped out of the vehicle, a black Volvo SUV, on the 210 Freeway in San Fernando Valley. Police are searching for those men, Parker added.
The chase ended at approximately 11:30 a.m. in South Los Angeles when the vehicle became blocked by traffic and a mob—apparently aware of the chase and its shower of cash—surrounded the SUV. Sheriff's deputies then took the two remaining suspects into custody.
SOUTH LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — An hour-long pursuit with four bank robbery suspects led authorities across Los Angeles County before finally coming to a close in South LA.

The pursuit began in Santa Clarita after Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputies received a call of an armed robbery at a Bank of America in Canyon Country around 10:15 a.m., officials said.

A pursuit then ensued with the suspects riding in a black Volvo SUV. It continued along the eastbound 210 Freeway where at two suspects bailed from the vehicle and took off on foot in Sylmar.

The chase continued onto the southbound Pasadena (110) Freeway and into downtown, where the driver was speeding through midday traffic.

KNX 1070′s Pete Demetriou reports suspects were seen dumping an unknown amount of cash along streets in Exposition Park.
